01 / Introduction

We make films that leave a bruise.

01

Rebel Pictures is a director-led production company built on a simple principle: low budget, high precision. This is not about making films cheaper. It is about moving the decisive creative choices earlier, so ambition, performance and the images that matter are protected.

02 / Foundation

From DV to 65mm film.

Rebel Pictures was founded in Copenhagen in 2018 by director Jesper Tønnes, but its roots reach back to a farm in Jutland, a DV camera and the need to make ambitious images without access to crews, large budgets or an established system. Filmmaking was learned by doing it: writing, directing, producing, editing, building effects and finding practical ways to make the frame feel bigger than the circumstances around it.

That self-taught curiosity was sharpened on professional Danish and international productions, working close to directors, actors, cinematographers and crews. There, communication, coordination and decisive leadership determine whether the plan survives the set. Rebel Pictures grew between those two worlds: professional discipline, curiosity, invention and the willingness to build from scratch.

03 / The principle

Low budget.
High precision.

Limited resources taught us to make every creative decision count. Professional productions taught us how preparation, communication and decisive leadership keep the film intact. Low budget, high precision grew from those two experiences.

Low budget does not mean cheap. It means directing the available time, money and crew energy towards what reaches the screen, where the audience can see, hear and feel it.

04 / How it works

Three principles. One connected process.

01

Find the motor

Every project begins with a question, conflict, world or idea strong enough to carry both the film and the audience’s curiosity.

02

Move decisions forward

Script, visual direction, floorplans, production design, camera, sound and post are considered together. The clearer the film is before production, the more energy the set can spend on performance, images and emotional intensity.

03

Protect what reaches the screen

Precision is not about having fewer ideas. It is about losing fewer resources to uncertainty and directing the available energy towards what the audience can actually see, hear and feel.

05 / Format

Every format tells a different story.

We have no loyalty to a single format. DV, digital cinema and celluloid from Super 8 to 65mm are different tools with different emotional weight. The format is chosen early and for one reason: to give the story its strongest form, never for prestige.

06 / The method in practice

Proven in production.

01

The Last Padawan 2

A 50-minute genre film shot in 12 days and released through an audience campaign that generated 4.77 million views.

02

Intet Vover

A 34-minute noir thriller with a professional ensemble, constructed sets and four Kodak film gauges. It was planned so every filmed scene reached the final cut.

03

CUT

Four cameras and four analog workflows captured one performance simultaneously, making the technical complexity part of the film itself.

The principle now carries Rebel Pictures into its next chapter: an intense sports drama rooted in the people, pressure and culture of Danish speedway.
